Bristish Female Cyclist Victoria Pendleton Wins Gold Medals on Olympic track Velodrome

I am extremely happy for Victoria Pendleton, my cyclists helmet goes out to her!

The 31-year-old Pendleton gave Britain its third gold medal in two days of competition on the super fast track, just moments after Ed Clancy, Geraint Thomas, Peter Kennaugh and Steven Burke won the team pursuit title in a world record time.

Great Britain’s Victoria Pendleton won the women’s keirin gold medal on day two of the Olympic track cycling program. Chinese rider Shuang Guo was second and Wai Sze Lee of Hong Kong won the bronze medal.

Bradley Wiggins Wins Individual Time Trial at the London Olympics

Following his historic Tour de France victory, Bradley Wiggins was the man to win the ITT today, and he just did it. He’s converted his individual pursuit speed and has had a phenomenal season.

You couldn´t discount my other contender, Fabian Cancellara, probably the greatest time trialist who’s ever drawn breath and Froome, Froome on his day he’s very good. But Wiggins has prepared meticulously and he didn´t fail his loyal British compatriots.

Congrats, Bradley!

Rowan Atkinson Wins the Chariots of Fire Funniest Olympic Take in London

Rowan Atkinson, a well known British actor and comedian, not only in England but in the world, did a parody that was hilarious at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

21:50: A cutaway again. Atkinson is now running with runners as a parody of the film Chariots of Fire. He falls behind the pack and races ahead on a car. As he appears to be slipping back into second place he trips his rival to win. He returns from his day dream and his berated by his conductor.

21:47: It gets weirder! Rowan Atkinson is playing the keyboard in a version of Vangelis’s Chariots of Fire. The Mr Bean actor appears to be in character as he texts on his mobile phone and plays the notes with an umbrella as he reaches for his backpack. He also blows his nose and chucks it at a member of the orchestra. Charming.

Cyclist Sir Chris Hoy Will Carry British Flag At Olympics Opening Ceremony

Sir Christopher Andrew Hoy, 36 years old, will indeed carry the British flag tomorrow at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games. Hoy has been a four-time Olympic champion and that is the reason why he won the vote of the British athletes and officials over the weekend.

Hoy will lead out Team GB in the athletes’ parade in front of 80,000 spectators in the stadium and more than a billion TV viewers worldwide.

He tweeted: ‘Delighted to be able to say that I’ll be carrying the flag at the Opening Ceremony! Massive honour!’
Hoy later said to reporters:

“The team is not due to travel until the Saturday, chances are I probably would not have gone so it’s a great opportunity for me in my last Olympics.<<2
It will be something special and especially with it being the home Games it will be quite an experience.
It’s the stuff of dreams and I am still in shock a little bit at receiving such a huge honour.”

“The general feeling is just of sheer excitement and anticipation. It is reaching fever pitch.’
He also warned Wiggins that his life will now change dramatically – that is likely to be even more the case should the 32-year-old become cycling’s next knight of the realm.”
“Any accolades or honours that come his way will be fully deserved,” added Hoy.
“In the cycling world he’s a superstar already, he’s used to a lot of attention wherever he travels. In the UK that is where the real change will happen when he is walking about.”
“I think his life will change drastically, but I think he will handle it very well, I don’t see him changing and he’ll be just the same Bradley we have always known.”

Rome drops bid for 2020 Olympics – MarketWatch

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) — One casualty of Italy’s financial meltdown appears to be its bid for the 2020 Olympics as Rome has dropped its attempt to host the quadrennial games, the Associated Press reports. Italian Premier Mario Monti said Tuesday, the day before the deadline for formal submission of Olympic bids, that spending the estimated $12.5 billion it would cost would be an irresponsible way to spend tax dollars, the wire service noted. Still in the running are Tokyo; Madrid; Istanbul; Doha, Qatar; and Baku, Azerbaijan.

Lance Armstrong to join Liloan race

SEVEN-TIME Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong might be seeing action in the 2012 Xterra Philippines Championship Off-road Triathlon on March 18 in Liloan, Cebu.

Cebu over-all coordinator Oscar Rodriguez said that Sunrise Events Chairman Fred Uytengsu, organizer of the event, has invited Armstrong to join the event.

“We are expecting feedback from him either on the last week of February or in the first week of March,” Rodriguez said.

After retiring from pro cycling, Armstrong joined the Xterra US Championship in Utah, his first in 20 years, and secured the fifth spot. He then finished No. 23 in his first Xterra World Championship at Kapalua, Hawaii.

“It would be great to have him but Xterra would overshadow Ironman. It would also be a security and logistical headache. Just imagine racing with one of the greatest sportsmen alive,” Rodriguez said.

He also added that he has seen Lance run during the New York Marathon and he has his own close-in security like those of the President of the United States of America.

Russian Cyclist Can Spoil Cavendish’s Home Olympics

Russian sprint cyclist Denis Galimzyanov could spoil Mark Cavendish’s home Olympics, six-time Tour de France winner Erik Zabel has warned.
Galimzyanov is the lead sprinter for Russia’s Katusha team, where Zabel works as a consultant, and despite his finish of 11th in last year’s World Championship in Copenhagen, he has the potential to challenge for medals in London, Zabel told RIA Novosti.
“I always say to Dennis that he should think of victory, that anything is possible for him at the Olympics. Maybe Cavendish will make a mistake at the Games? That can happen to anyone,” said the 41-year-old German, who won every Tour de France green jersey between 1996 and 2001.

“If the Russians can ensure a good formation at the finish for their leader – yes, they can get involved in the fight with the Germans, British and Italians. So nothing’s impossible for Denis in this situation.”
Zabel joined Katusha as a consultant in October. “I am now concentrating on Denis above all because the Olympics are ahead,” he said.
“Russia has a total of three cyclists in the road race. We’re already working on plans, preparing, working on some individual points.”
Zabel added that Galimzyanov did not need much improvement to be a medal contender.
“The top ten at the World Championships are cyclists of the highest class and to get there, to be close to them in the results is good in its itself, but if you consider the density of the results, then the difference in the top 20 between the medalists and those outside the prizes is negligible.
“So for a young cyclist it was a good result. Denis has a chance for a medal at the Olympics even with exactly the same lineup of power in the race as there was in Copenhagen.”
Zabel said Russia has other medal hopes.
“I think Denis has great prospects, but it’s not just him. [Alexander] Porsev is an excellent guy – he’s not on the list of the leaders of world cycling now, but it seems to me he can become a real star,” Zabel said.
While 24-year-old Galimzyanov has yet to win a Grand Tour event, he had a strong 2011 season with victory in the Paris-Brussels race, the Tour of Beijing and the Three Days of De Panne.
Porsev, 25, only turned professional in 2011, but is seen as one of Russian cycling brightest prospects.
