Lance Armstrong Banned From Racing Ironman and Thriatlon Events

Lance Armstrong is in big trouble again with doping charges over him threatening to take his 7 Tour de France titles away from him. But this time -doping charges are more serious because the USADA accuses him of promoting the use of many drugs that should only be used by doctors for patients in medical need of them, like steroids (many kinds), blood booster EPO, blood transfusions, human growth hormone (HGH) and others.

I have been an admirer of Lance’s for long time, and I don´t want to bashing either, but these “rumors” have been around for too long already, about 16 to 17 years and now I really wonder how much involvement Mr. Armstrong has in these charges. The worst thing of all is the promoting the use of drugs accusation. He knows the truth, the real truth.

I know that Lance has never tested positive, so the laboratory reports say, but we know that when millions of Euros or US dollars are involved in a cover up, everything negative could be easily erased in some corrupt companies and agencies. But who knows, really who cares by now, not me, certainly,  not anymore, and this is it for me:  no more Lance Armstrong. There are other cyclists that deserve our attention and praise to be wasting it on Lance.

Many people could be sadly affected if the LIVESTRONG Foundation gets hurt financially, but there are many others in the US and around the world that could and can continue the great work of supporting cancer research, I am sure of that.

The World Triathlon Corporation’s board of directors decided to keep a rule that prevents seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong from competing in Ironman events, ESPN.com reported Saturday.

The rule states that athletes “under investigation” for alleged doping offenses cannot participate in WTC-sanctioned triathlons.

Therefore, Armstrong will not be allowed to compete at a June 24 Ironman event in France. It may also prevent him from qualifying for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii this fall.

The ban came Wednesday after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency told Armstrong that it intends to file charges against him that could result in him losing his Tour de France titles. The charges are not based on positive drug tests, but witness testimony and other evidence going back to the mid-1990s.

“There were 815 athletes who agreed to the rule that is currently standing, and there’s no ambiguity about it,” WTC CEO Andrew Messick told ESPN.com Saturday. “Even if it has unintended consequences, (rescinding) it isn’t the right thing to do for the integrity of the sport.”

Some competitors do not like the rule. Among them is four-time Ironman event winner Jordan Rapp, who wrote in an e-mail to ESPN.com that he disagrees with it.

Tour de Suisse 2012 Frank Schleck Second after Stage 3

Frank Schleck started to sprint furiously yesterday on stage 2 on a very steep mountain, the peloton tried to follow but couldn´t. The only rider that put a good fight was Rui Faria da Costa winning the stage.
Today´s stage was a flat one and the only very interesting thing to talk about was the train that passed right before the peloton, so they had to stop but the escapees continue to ride away. The chasing peloton was separated in half due to poor timing at a railway crossing.

GENERAL CLASSIFICATION AFTER STAGE 3

Pozzato Cycling Crash Paris-Roubaix 2012

Pozzato crashes and Devolder with him in the Paris-Roubaix 2012. Pozzato misjudges a corner on the cobbles and crashes into Stijn Devolder on 5-star pavé section!

Rojas Wins Vuelta al Pais Vasco Stage1

Jose Joaquin Rojas bounced back from his recent crash in the finale of Gent Wevelgem to win today’s opening stage of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco in Gueñes. The Movistar rider timed his finishing effort perfectly, powering off the wheel of Vacansoleil DCM rider Wouter Poels to beat him, Garmin Barracuda’s Fabian Wegmann, Daniele Ratto (Liquigas Cannondale) and the rest of the bunch to the line.

The day was marked by a long break by Oleg Berdos (Utensilnord) and David De La Fuente (Caja Rural), who went clear eleven kilometres after the start, opened a lead of over five minutes, led over six of the day’s seven climbs, but were reeled in 15.7 kilometres from the line.

A big crash on the final climb led to some hesitation in the bunch, then a surge by Wesley Sulzberger (GreenEdge) sparked things off again. He was hauled back, as were a subsequent move by several riders on the descent plus a foray by Daniel Navarro (Saxo Bank) and Il Lombardia champion Oliver Zaugg (RadioShack Nissan).

Andy Schleck 2010 Tour De France Winner

Andy Schleck of team RadioShack-Nissan is to receive official honours for the 2010 Tour de France victory, following the disqualification of Alberto Contador because of a doping-related suspension. Race director Christian Prudhomme has told Belgian newspaper Le Soir that he was planning to hold an official ceremony in Luxembourg, awarding Schleck with the title.

“We want the world to know about this, even though we know that Andy Schleck had much rather won on his bike,” Prudhomme was quoted as saying.

It is not yet known when or where the ceremony will take place.

Cyclist Fabrizio Nacher Vuelta Mexico

Contador Suspended, Stripped of 2010 Tour de France Win

Alberto Contador Banned

Three-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador has been found guilty of ingesting the banned substance clenbuterol and suspended from competition for two years by The Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Contador was stripped of his 2010 Tour de France title, and of all his race results since Jan. 25, 2011, including his win in the 2011 Giro d’Italia.

The Spanish cyclist failed a drug test after Stage 16 of the 2010 Tour de France, showing positive for clenbuterol, a chemical sometimes given illegally to livestock to increase lean muscle mass. Contador claimed he was exposed to the substance through eating contaminated meat.
The Spanish cycling agency RFEC initially suggested that Contador be suspended for one year starting Jan. 25, 2011, but the cyclist refused and instead appealed to the CAS. After repeated delays the CAS hearing took place in November; the three-judge panel spent the next two months digesting 4000 pages of testimony before rendering its decision.

The CAS panel deemed it unlikely that Contador ate tainted meat as there had been no reports of clenbuterol-contaminated meat in Spain, and no other cyclists tested positive.

The panel ruled that Contador most probably ingested a contaminated food supplement. The initial suspicion was that the clenbuterol could have come from a plastic blood plasma bag; cyclists sometimes get transfusions of doped blood and plasma to thin the doped blood. The panel decided that there was no evidence of transfusions.

The CAS panel, composed of Mr. Efraim Barak of Israel (President), Mr. Quentin Byrne-Sutton of Switzerland, and Prof. Ulrich Haas of Germany, ruled that the suspension was deemed to have started on Jan. 25, and that the 5 months, 19 days after the initial test in 2010 would also count towards the suspension. Therefore, the 29-year-old cyclist could be back racing a bike as soon as Aug. 6, 2012

The panel will rule at a later date about a UCI request to impose a fine of at least € 2,485,000 on the suspended cyclist.
